SAN FRANCISCO, CA-- The San Francisco Opera, Summer Season, begins this weekend with Mozart's Don Giovanni on Saturday June 4 and Dream of the Red Chamber following close behind, opening on Tuesday, June 14. Tickets are still available for both Operas as well as the one-night only concert Eun Sun Kim Conducts Verdi. This time, however, you can select how you want to watch the performances.
DON GIOVANNI Mozart's opera Don Giovanni K.527, with Italian Libretto by Lorenzo Da ponte, which was first performed in The Estates Theatre in Prague, in October 29, l787, with sensational success, is based on the character of Don Juan Tenorio, a young handsome Spaniard libertine, who abandons all the women he had seduced. The character, is the principal character of a Spanish play by the name of El Burlador de Sevilla y el Convidado de Piedra (The Sevilian Libertine and his Stone guest) written by Spaniard playwright Tirso de Molina in 1630.
DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER A celebration of Chinese culture, this contemporary opera takes its story from one of China's literary masterpieces-- a love story equivalent of Romeo and Juliet, in the West. Audiences went wild for the production in 2016, when it premiered to sold out houses and for good reason. The incredible creative team includes: EUN SUN KIM CONDUCTS VERDI In a one-night only concert, on June 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Opera House, Caroline H. Hume Music Director and New York Times Classical Music Breakout star Eun Sun Kim (pictured above) will close her first season as leader of the company's artistic forces, conducting the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus (prepared by Chorus Director John Keen) in a concert of GUIUSEPPE VERDI (1813-1901) favorites featuring scenes from his opera masterpieces.
