For WOMEN OF COLOR, to be able to vote, happened many years later, in 1965 , when the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, outlawing discriminatory voting practices and ensuring the women, including WOMEN OF COLOR (who had been previously excluded) were also given the right to vote. The celebration of songs from the musical "PERFECT 36" also includes a conversation with the book writer and lyricist LAURA HARRINGTON. ABOUT "PERFECT 36" So as Variety urged its readership to celebrate the day, let us all celebrate today the courage, tenacity and hard-core savvy of the American women, and men, who risked so much in the battle for women's voting rights. So today, one hundred years after the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constituion Guaranteed American women's the right to vote, as we celebrate Women's Suffrage, and with a monument in Central Park, in New York City with an statue depicting the womens' rights pioneers ELIZABETH CADY STANTON and SUSAN B, ANTHONY, let us not Whitewash the Movement's Racism, which means that the fight for the women's suffrage continues. |
